One of the conveniences of the 21st century is being able to lock, unlock, and even remote start our vehicles. While it’s not the end of the world having to do these things manually, it sure is a pain when you’ve gotten used to just pressing a button to make the magic happen. One of the services we offer is programming key fobs in case your standard one breaks, letting you enjoy the standard of living you’ve grown used to again.
Our process for programming key fobs is pretty standard. Even though each car is different, each manufacturer provides a set of instructions that more or less the same: we use a factory scan tool that helps the fob “relearn” different combinations of instructions so that the lock/unblock buttons, ignition switch, and other inputs communicate well between the key fob and the car itself. We can program almost any new key fob to a vehicle (used key fobs are trickier to reprogram, especially since the fob itself might be defective or broken to begin with). It’s important to note that we don’t perform any aftermarket add-ons so if your car never had a fob, we can’t program one to work with your vehicle. The same goes for remote starter installation unless there’s already a factory setup present.
Still, if the feature is available on a fob and is present in your car’s electronics, we can program. But this comes with a caveat: sometimes cars have multiple fob options depending on the year a certain model was made. For instance, a 2015 Ford F150 has six different key fob configurations, all coming with lock and unlock buttons, but some included a panic button, tailgate release, remote starter, truck lift — the list goes on. We make sure to look at each vehicle to purchase the right fob for it and help the customers decide the right course of action.
If your car uses an electronic key instead of the traditional metal one, so long as we can get the parts, we can program them.
